What is your earliest memory? It depends

This article is a selective review of the literature on childhood amnesia, followed by new analyses both published and unpublished data that has been collected in my laboratory over two decades. Analyses point to fluidity people’s earliest memories; furthermore, methodological variation leads individuals recalling memories from substantially earlier their lives. How early one’s “earliest” memory depends whether you have multiple interviews, how many were requested within an interview, type participation prior tasks, etc. As well, people often provide chronologically same interview which they later identify older as “earliest”. There may also be systematic mis-dating ages very memories. Overall, lot more preschool years than widely believed, able recall events lives historically documented.
